Blessed Among Women

by Alicia D. Myers, Blessed Among Women Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Blessed Among Women books, Mothers appear throughout the New Testament. Called "blessed among women" by Elizabeth in the Gospel of Luke, Mary, the mother of Jesus, is the most obvious example. But she is far from the only mother in this canon. She is joined by Elizabeth, a chorus of unnamed mothers seeking healing or promotions for their children, as well as male mothers, including Paul (Gal 4:19-20) and Jesus. Although interpreters of the New Testament have explored these maternal characters and metaphors, many have only recently begun to take seriously their theological aspects. This book builds on previous studies by arguing maternal language is not only theological, but also indebted to ancient gender constructions and their reshaping by early Christians. Especially significant are the physiological, anatomical, and social constructions of female bodies that permeate the ancient world where ancient Christianity was birthed. This book examines ancient generative theories, physiological understandings of breast milk and breastfeeding, and presentations of prominent mothers in literature and art to analyze the use of these themes in the New Testament and several, additional early Christian writings. In a context that aligned perfection with "masculinity," motherhood was the ideal goal for women-a justification for deficient, female existence. Proclaiming a new age ushered in by God's Christ, however, ancient Christians debated the place of women, mothers, and motherhood as a part of their reframing of gender expectations. Rather than a homogenous approval of literal motherhood, ancient Christian writings depict a spectrum of ideals for women disciples even as they retain the assumption of masculine superiority. Identifying themselves as members of God's household, ancient Christians utilized motherhood as a theological category and a contested ideal for women disciples.

Destabilizing The Margins

by Marianne Bjelland Kartzow, Destabilizing The Margins Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Destabilizing The Margins books, In this book Marianne Bjelland Kartzow suggests that ideas taken from recent discussions of multiple identities and intersectionality, combined with insights from memory theory, can renew our engagement with biblical texts. Some marginal early Christian passages, and what the scholarly community has reconstructed of their historical contexts, are encountered, looking for alternative ways these texts can produce meaning. A fresh look at some marginal biblical figures--such as male and female slaves who are beaten by a fellow slave, the queer figure of the Ethiopian eunuch, foreign Egyptian women, rebellious widows, or a possessed fortune-telling slave girl--can help biblical users to talk in more critical and creative ways about responsibility, identity, injustice, violence, inclusion/exclusion, and the intersections of gender, sexuality, race, and class. These perspectives may be relevant for those who see the New Testament as Christian canon or as cultural canon, or as both.

The Birthing Of A Glorious Church

by Yinka Oloyede, The Birthing Of A Glorious Church Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download The Birthing Of A Glorious Church books, The birthing of a Glorious church Have you ever asked yourself why you were you born and what your purpose on earth is? Most of the time, Christians live a religious life rather than the one that God has destined for them. God is sending out a message that we must all first recognize our role as priests in His kingdom by declaring and revealing who He is when we walk in what He has destined and purposed for our lives. This will give us a real indication of our identity in His kingdom. This book explains why the CHURCH of JESUS CHRIST must refocus on His coming. These days the trend of events stated in Mathew chapter 24 and the headline news are so obvious that we must be on our watch for His coming This book is to prepare the believers in expectation of the second coming of Jesus Christ for His true saints. It is also to prepare the church as a whole body as Christ's bride, by washing the spots and wrinkles off her wedding gown to become the glorious bride that Jesus has destined her to be. Her glory will be the light to the world to draw many to Christ from this world of sin. This book has been described as a Christian's manual of faith for righteous living. As an end time messenger of God, Yinka writes with urgency and of necessity for the church of Jesus Christ to prepare for His coming and live in expectancy that He can come anytime soon. She also interprets God's Word with a divine revelation gifted to her by the Holy Spirit. She urges non-believers and those who are searching for the true way to the Supreme God of the universe to receive Jesus the only begotten Son of God as the truth, the life and only way to the Father. Finally, this book expresses God's love and compassion for those who have lost hope in this life and to those who have backslidden into the world. Jesus is calling out to you. This is a last call! It ends with a question: If Jesus comes back today are you ready to go with Him?

The Death Of The Messiah And The Birth Of The New Covenant

by Michael J. Gorman, The Death Of The Messiah And The Birth Of The New Covenant Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download The Death Of The Messiah And The Birth Of The New Covenant books, In this groundbreaking book, Michael Gorman asks why there is no theory or model of the atonement called the "new-covenant" model, since this understanding of the atonement is likely the earliest in the Christian tradition, going back to Jesus himself. Gorman argues that most models of the atonement over-emphasize the penultimate purposes of Jesus' death and the "mechanics" of the atonement, rather than its ultimate purpose: to create a transformed, Spirit-filled people of God. The New Testament's various atonement metaphors are part of a remarkably coherent picture of Jesus' death as that which brings about the new covenant (and thus the new community) promised by the prophets, which is also the covenant of peace. Gorman therefore proposes a new model of the atonement that is really not new at all--the new-covenant model. He argues that this is not merely an ancient model in need of rediscovery, but also a more comprehensive, integrated, participatory, communal, and missional model than any of the major models in the tradition. Life in this new covenant, Gorman argues, is a life of communal and individual participation in Jesus' faithful, loving, peacemaking death. Written for both academics and church leaders, this book will challenge all who read it to re-think and re-articulate the meaning of Christ's death for us.
