Ethical Transformations For A Sustainable Future

by Olivier Urbain, Ethical Transformations For A Sustainable Future Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Ethical Transformations For A Sustainable Future books, It has become increasingly apparent that humanity’s complex social, political, and economic systems are incompatible with the finite capacity of the Earth to replenish resources and absorb wastes. If the planet is to continue to be habitable for the myriad web of other creatures that make life possible, humans must transform their systems so that they are aligned with natural systems. One thing is sure—it will not be Nature’s laws, the delicate interdependence that characterizes Earth’s ecosystems, that change. The change must begin within each person, and from there permeate throughout our social, political, and economic structures. The contributors to this volume believe that such transformations are urgently needed and possible, and they offer specific examples. They suggest solutions that call for new perspectives in our ethics, beliefs, traditions, economy, business, gender relations, education, and technology. They show that human beings have the power to implement changes in all natural and social environments. The chapters in this book have been organized around three keywords: Reconnecting, Reframing, and Rethinking. The contributors argue that we need to reconnect with the Earth and nature, as well as with each other and parts of ourselves that we have ignored for too long. We need to reframe the way in which people prioritize choices in the economy, the way we do business and pursue development; and we need to rethink the mission of education and the roles of technology.

Climate Change And Sustainable Development

by Thomas Potthast, Climate Change And Sustainable Development Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Climate Change And Sustainable Development books, Climate change is a major framing condition for sustainable development of agriculture and food. Global food production is a major contributor to global greenhouse gas emissions and at the same time it is among the sectors worst affected by climate change. This book brings together a multidisciplinary group of authors exploring the ethical dimensions of climate change and food. Conceptual clarifications provide a necessary basis for putting sustainable development into practice. Adaptation and mitigation demand altering both agricultural and consumption practices. Intensive vs. extensive production is reassessed with regard to animal welfare, efficiency and environmental implications. Property rights pay an ever-increasing role, as do shifting land-use practices, agro-energy, biotechnology, food policy to green consumerism. And, last but not least, tools are suggested for teaching agricultural and food ethics. Notwithstanding the plurality of ethical analyses and their outcome, it becomes apparent that governance of agri-food is faced by new needs and new approaches of bringing in the value dimension much more explicitly. This book is intended to serve as a stimulating collection that will contribute to debate and reflection on the sustainable future of agriculture and food production in the face of global change.

Sustainable Development Science Ethics And Public Policy

by J. Lemons, Sustainable Development Science Ethics And Public Policy Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Sustainable Development Science Ethics And Public Policy books, Of all the books written about the problems of sustainable development and environmental protection, Sustainable Development: Science, Ethics, and Public Policy is one of the first to examine the role of science, economics and law, and ethics as generally applied to decision making on sustainable development, particularly in respect to the recommendations contained in Agenda 21. Specifically, the book examines the role, capabilities, and certain strengths and weaknesses of these disciplines and their ethical implications in the context of sustainable development problems. Such an analysis is necessary to determine whether sustainable development problems create important new challenges and problems for government so that, where appropriate, new tools or approaches may be designed to overcome limitations or take advantage of the strengths of current scientific, economic and legal capabilities. Audience: Environmental professionals, whether academic, governmental or industrial, or in the private consultancy sector. Also suitable as an upper level text or reference.

Organizational Transformation For Sustainability

by Mark Edwards, Organizational Transformation For Sustainability Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Organizational Transformation For Sustainability books, During the 21st century organizations will undergo a level of radical and global change that has rarely been seen before. This transformation will come as a result of the environmental, social and economic challenges that now confront organisations in all their activities. But are our understandings and theories of change up to the task of meeting these challenges? Will we be able to develop sustaining visions of how organizations might contribute to the long-term viability of our interdependent global communities? Organizational Transformation for Sustainability: An Integral Metatheory offers some innovative answers to the big questions involved in organizational sustainability and the radical changes that organizations will need to undergo as we move into the third millennium. This new approach comes from the emerging field of integral metatheory. Edwards shows how a "Big Picture" view of organisational transformation can contribute to our understanding of, and search for, organisational sustainability. There are four key themes to the book: i) the need for integrative metatheories for organisational change; ii) the development of a general research method for building metatheory; iii) the description of an integral metatheory for organisational sustainability; and iv) the discussion of the implications of this metatheory for organisational change and social policy regarding sustainability. This book brings a unique and important orienting perspective to these issues.
